Description

"Restored to perfection"

Ford's "New Generation" Econoline van (Stock version) was a commercial workhorse and customizers dream. The kit features a 124 inch Wheelbase "Shorty" E-150 with Chateau trim including deluxe Captain's Chair Seats and Full Wheel Covers. The mini-hood opens to reveal a forward-placed 351 C.I.D. V-8 engine. The superdetailed chassis has a massive new frame with Twin-I-Beam front suspension. The alternate custom building version features the latest in street/show customizing including wild "Mural" decals, front spoiler, wheel flares, custom grille, rectangular headlights, header sidemount exhausts, Keystone "Ranger" spoke wheels, super-side Goodyear Street tires. The "Phantom" variation also includes optional windows and roof vent. The kit includes three sets of custom windows in clear and smoke tent with "Gemstone", "Teardrop" and Freestyle versions. Here's a brief history of the AMT late seventies van kit. The first AMT Ford Econoline van kit was called the "Vantom" and was issued in 1976. That first issue included stock and custom parts. In 1977, AMT did an actual "Annual Issue" with the "Cruising" Van. The "Cruising" Van could only be built as a "factory customized" Ford van as this second issue did not include stock wheel covers. The later "Six-Wheel" and "Matilda" versions of the Ford van kit included all of the stock parts, except for tires, though the stock parts were not used in those issues and are not shown on the instruction sheets. The kits that did not include any stock parts are the Disco Van, Cuckoo Nest, and Hyper Hut. Since the stock grille, bumpers, and wheels for the Econoline kits were on the plated tree, with custom parts substituted, the stock plated tree was no longer needed, and that tree was left out of the later ultra-custom versions. The point is that the kit is all together again in this latest 2012 version. Our thanks to "MCM Friend" from the Model Car Magazines Forum for the research. As mentioned, on this newest reissue of the '76 Econoline Van, our friends at Round2/AMT have done it right, restoring all the stock parts so the Van can be built bone stock or wild custom.
