During the '60's performance car wars, Chevy needed its own pony car to stand up to the competition and the Camaro was the answer. By '69, an SS RS Camaro convertible with a monstrous 396 V-8 under a Cowl Induction hood was just about the hottest thing on wheels.

It seemed that all of Detroit was competing to have the fastest high-performance vehicle on the market. The 1966 debut of the Camaro gave Chevy serious street cred with the muscle car crowd. For the 1969 model, Chevy replaced the rounded lines of previous Camaros with a far sportier, more aggressive design.
