Issued in 1994 this is a historic kit in that it was the very first Model King Limited Production kit done in partnership with a major model kit manufacturer. This one kit started a virtual Renaissance in the hobby as dozens of long out of production kits were brought back to life. At the time of this reissue, the AMT 1963 Chevy had only been issued twice, once in 1963 and again in 1988 as part of the Prestige Series. Since Model King rescued the tooling, the AMT 1963 Chevy has been reissued a couple of times and Revell finally released their own version of the important and venerable 1963 Impala. The old AMT kit remains the preference of many builders as it stands the test of time. Whether you build it stock, custom, or convert it to an early vintage race car, the AMT '63 Impala always brings back memories.
The 1963 Impala featured rectilinear styling with an engine-turned aluminum rear taillight panel surrounded by a chrome border on SS models. Engine choice was similar to 1962, with the small-block 283-and-327-cubic-inch (4.6 and 5.4 L) V-8's being the most popular. The Sport Sedan featured a new, creased roof line. A new "coved" instrument panel with simple indicator lights for hot and cold engine conditions. An optional factory tachometer was built into the dashboard, just above the steering wheel; it was rarely ordered.
