Planning for the 4th generation Chevy CK Pickups, GMT400, began in the early 1980's. After a design freeze, production development began in early 1984 on the full size Chevy Pickups, and they were introduced in April 1987 as 1988 models (and known within GM as the GMT400 platform). There were eight different versions of the C/K line for 1988: Fleetside Single Cab, Fleetside Extended Cab, Fleetside Crew Cab, and Stepside Single Cab models, each in either 2WD (C) or 4WD (K) drive-lines.
AMT was quick to follow the popularity of the new "Silverado" line releasing annual kits in 1988,1989 and 1990 to coincide with the actual release of the 1:1 Pickups.
